This opens the possibility of exchanging DNA between unrelated species and changing our understanding of the evolutionary process. From the article: 'Before this study, geneticists knew of examples where genes from a parasite had crossed into the host, but such an event was considered a rare anomaly except in very simple organisms. Bacterial DNA is very conspicuous in its structure, so if scientists sequencing a nematode genome, for example, come across bacterial DNA, they would likely discard it, reasonably assuming that it was merely contamination--perhaps a bit of bacteria in the gut of the animal, or on its skin. But those genes may not be contamination. They may very well be in the host's own genome. This is exactly what happened with the original sequencing of the genome of the anannassae fruitfly--the huge Wolbachia insert was discarded from the final assembly, despite the fact that it is part of the fly's genome.'"

Fri, 08/24/2007 - 02:46 — Grendianand i implore you all that i have found the holy grail of green day video. this is what i've been asking for since about the sixth grade when i realized the pre-dookie music was the best: video of them playing most of their first album with their original drummer at about age 18. there's a half a dozen or so 8-minute clips of them playing outside some high school. i'm not sure if it's their high school or just some high school. either way, the year is 1990. they totally fucking rock ridiculously, no apologies.

Wed, 08/01/2007 - 19:33 — GrendianSo I was walking down the street today when I saw this little fat man with round glasses muttering to himself about god knows what. He literally was the guy from Office Space who keeps losing his stapler and getting stuffed into smaller offices. Needless to say, I burst out laughing the instant I saw him... not sure if he noticed..
